I can remember calling Dr. Dominguez’s office like it was yesterday. After explaining to her assistant, Elizabeth, my situation, she stated, “Your story sounds like so many of our patient’s stories”. I asked her, “Do you think she can help me?” Elizabeth gave me hope and what seemed almost like assurance, but I feared to get my hopes up. I learned about Dr. Dominguez in a strange way. I was in Northern California visiting at my brother’s church and overheard the pastor’s wife speaking about her situation and this wonderful doctor down in Southern California. She traveled down there to see her. So much of what she described sounded like similar issues that I had been struggling through for the past decade leading up to that time. She spoke about natural hormones and I had suspected that was my issue in spite of what the other doctors had all told me. I had tried the Vivelle patches that doctors gave me and although they helped a bit, they were inconsistent and I feared an inappropriate amount of estrogen, which I knew could lead to cancer. I needed it, but I needed the right amount. Patches don’t provide that; nor are they consistent enough.

I was eating about 1,000 – 1,200 calories per day and I was gaining about 5 pounds per month on average. I should have been losing weight. The weight piled on no matter how little I ate and so did the depression. I am 5’2” and when I walked into Dr. Dominguez’s office, I weighed 165 pounds. I had been to several doctors with the most recent prior to Dr. D being an endocrinologist who told me after a 10-minute visit (that was interrupted by a phone call), that my blood work looked fine and was within “normal” range and that even though I had almost every symptom for hypothyroidism that I didn’t have it and he sent me on my way. I asked about the weight gain and he said, “You just might be one of those unlucky people who have to eat 500 calories a day to lose weight.” At this point, I was not only in tears on my way out the door, but convinced that his medical degree came out of a “Cracker Jack’s box.

On my first visit with Dr. Dominguez, she sat down with me and told me that normal for one person is not necessarily normal for another and that the so-called "normal" is a pretty big range. She put me on thyroid medication after seeing my blood work and hearing my numerous symptoms. I had all but two of them on the list from the Merck manual. She monitored my blood work every three months until we got the symptoms under control and I fell more within the middle of "normal". I didn't drop weight immediately. That took some time, but I stopped gaining and I seemed to stabilize. In addition to that, she did a "saliva test" on me and found that my progesterone level should have been around 600 and mine was at 20. This explained the vocal issues, mood swings, and sadness that I experienced for three weeks out of the month. I had been tested by many doctors and all the conventional blood tests showed nothing wrong. After getting my saliva results, Dr. Dominguez put me on bio-identical hormone creams that were made specifically for me with very specific dosage directions. She carefully monitors through saliva testing and blood work my hormone levels and thyroid levels every 3 months. I am grateful to the Lord for bringing her into my life and I credit Dr. Dominguez for giving me back my life, my spirit, and my voice.

Eighteen months ago I experienced some deep emotional trauma. My husband of 14 years abandoned me. I went through a lot of physical pain due to the emotional trauma and wound up losing 50 pounds due to the stomach upset over a 6 month period of time. I called her directly after he left and she has truly been there as my physician and friend. I cried for so many months that my adrenal glands were exhausted and basically shot. She has treated me with natural supplements and helped me to gain strength and balance back into my life one day at a time. Today I am still mending emotionally; but Dr. Dominguez has truly helped to put me back together. I can't imagine where I would be or if I would even be here without her. When medical conversations come up, you'll hear me say, "I love my doctor, she is amazing!" My mother struggled with a scalp issue for over 8 years. I kept telling her, "Go see Dr. D". Her resistance was the long drive and the distance. I drive an hour and a half to see my doctor, and most people aren't willing to do that. Finally my mom got desperate enough to go (her scalp looked like she had cradle cap). Since seeing Dr. D and following her instructions, she has had a clear scalp now for a couple years. My mom was lacking a specific dietary supplement. Other doctors had her pumped up on cortisone and it wasn't working; not to mention the damage it causes to the body over time.

Dr. Dominguez takes the time to really look at the entire body and what is going on. She respects God's intricate design of the body and looks for the REAL source of the problem instead of quickly trying to treat the symptoms and shove you out the door. I went through that with other doctors for 10 years with no help. Dr. D has never taken less than an hour with me. She is truly concerned and cares for her patients and wants to hear about what is going on with the whole person and not just what hurts or their main complaint. The body works in unison and everything in the body effects every other part. It is comforting to leave her office knowing that you are on your way to better health.

Dr. Dominguez probably doesn't even realize this; but, no matter where she chooses to practice, I will always be her patient. I don't ever plan to see another medical doctor, other than her, primarily because (at this point in time) there are none that are as competent in my opinion. We have developed history over time and she has NEVER let me down. She has always solved my issue and taken the time necessary to do so. I am thrilled that there is a possibility that there may be others like her in the future, due to her passion to share her knowledge with others. I pray that may be the case. The need is so great. There are so many others like me who need the help and she is only one person and there are only so many hours in a day. However; as for me, I'm not going anywhere. If I move out of state, I'll visit family and Dr. D twice a year. I can't imagine my life without her being a part of it. She has been a complete answer to many prayers and a true blessing in my life.
